Couples named Mary and Joseph get free room

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Ok so I found this quite funny…

A British hotel chain is offering couples called Mary and Joseph a free night’s stay over Christmas.

“We are trying to make up for the hotel industry not having any rooms left on Christmas Eve 2004 years ago,” said Sandy Leckie, manager of the Travelodge hotel in London’s Covent Garden.

“Our hotel is definitely more comfortable than a stable. I just hope they don’t bring their donkey,” he said.

Yeshua ben Yosef

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

An event looms. A birth celebration no less. Yeshua ben Yosef, a child of an obscure family from Nazareth in a small country called Israel [interestingly it is about the same size as Vancouver Island] was born over 2000 years ago. This child of a small oppressed people, not even ruling their own country, of a marginalised family, so unimportant that they had no priority accomodation when they had to return to their home town to register for a Roman census, had an astounding affect on his people. And on the Roman empire, and on the world. Amazing really.

A History of Christmas Dinner

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Last night CCN hosted an alternative Carol service. Alternative because we hosted a Christmas meal and gave a history of many of the traditions as we went through.

What a great evening!!

There were almost 60 people there enjoying starter, turkey dinner, christmas puds and mince pies. Ivet did a great job getting it all made and served. John led us through giving us histories of cards, trees, crackers, holly and mistletoe, Christmas pud, mince pies. And a running quiz all the way through. A good summing up to remember Jesus in the midst of it. We sang three carols - good choices I thought, Mike!! I just never know with these things how many carols is ‘enough’?

I thought the evening worked really well and very accessible and enjoyable for all who attended.

Well done all!
