Waiting for God - Emma Bullard

A couple of my favourite quotes from Emma:

On Advent:

The thing about advent is that it’s a chance for God to challenge what we’re looking at, and to place us in a bigger picture, to help us understand how we fit in His story, to live waiting in anticipation of the kingdom coming. Let’s offer God an opportunity to reset our perspectives again today.

On Not Worrying:

And why shouldn’t we worry that there might not be enough? Why can Jesus say “do not be anxious about your life”? Why shouldn’t these concerns unsettle us? Because of what God is like. Because of what He thinks of us.

Live in a way that demonstrates where our heart is. Letting our lifestyles give the game away about who and what we treasure, about what’s important.

He asks us to treasure and prioritise the things He treasures.

Jesus’ words to the disciples about not worrying are not just advocating a carefree life, they actually challenge priorities and expectations and perspectives at the heart of our lives and those around us.

October Podcast

I even forgot to put up a download of Adrian White’s talk from October 10th. Sorry!!

This was a great talk!! I always love listening to Adrian :o). He is kicking off our look at Luke chapter 9-19 together, and it is called “Journeying with Jesus”. Here he talks about taking Jesus seriously … dealign with some of Jesus’ more ‘awkward’ challenges in Luke 9:57-62:

“As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But the man replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.”

Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
