Home Church DNA
CCN Home Churches reflect their DNA. The ingredients that guide what they are. The following are our DNA, the key issues of what it means to be church and what it means to be Jesus followers:
Live lives of worship:
We are to be a people corporately and individually centred on God – it is His church: we are part of the Father’s family, we are modelling our lives on the Son and we are living in and by the empowering, transforming work of the Spirit.
How? The worship life each individual brings, group worship activities [be creative], celebrating the Lord’s Supper together all help this to be a reality.
Create community:
live as community and be agents of community in our geographical areas and social networks. Develop depth of community/relational life and allow others to experience it. The community is founded on expressing together Common Purpose, Common Possessions, Common Place.
How? Time spent together, committed to each other, being consistent, each one playing his/her part and not holding back, learning about what community means; finding ways to draw others in from our neighbourhoods [“find any excuse to bring the neighbourhood togetherâ€] & social networks.
Make disciples:
help each other to live the new way of life, learning more about ‘the Way’, developing your individual and corporate walk/relationship with God (‘Spirituality’) by challenging each other forward. Seeing the image of Christ formed in us through the work of the Spirit. Seek to make disciples of others who don’t know Jesus by pointing others towards him.
How? Talking about God in all aspects of life, encouraging each other, studying the bible, being open, talking about what God is saying to you, using spiritual gifts, praying for each other, developing accountability to each other; praying for others, showing them your life with Jesus, showing Jesus to them.
Reach in love:
Life a life of love intentionally focussed towards others. Love one another in service of and care for each other. Look for way(s) as a community to reach in compassion to the poor/needy, as well as to friends and neighbours.
How? Look out for each other, care for each other, support each other; take [leap at!] every opportunity to do the same for friends and neighbours, look out for opportunities to reach in compassion to the poor/needy.
Include in openness and invitation:
Seek to live out your corporate life in such a way as to naturally and routinely include others who are not part of the church. Everyone treat these people with a special welcome, ensuring they feel comfortable.
How? Include people in your lives, do things together that you can invite friends and neighbours to. Think about how to draw people further towards God through community life
Reproduce:
Build towards planting out a new home church through training new leaders and planning towards it. Let this be a faith adventure
How? Think, plan and pray for God to work, keep giving away leadership and responsibility to train others. When the group is too big to eat together look for 2 to 3 families to plant out as the core of a new group.
