Scene Setting
Imagine yourself in a church, around 93AD, in Ephesusnbsp;modern day Turkey.nbsp; It has been a hard time.nbsp;Persecution started under Nero in 65, intensified in 67 under Vespasian, Jerusalem had been destroyed nbsp;in 70. Peter and Paul have been crucified, Timothy murdered.

These Caesars had all declared themselves such things asnbsp;son of god; divine-human mediator; saviour of the world; on coins were the words: salvation is found only in Caesar, and no other name but Augustus.

In 92 under Domitian things got worse -nbsp;40000 christians killed that year.nbsp; He ordered everyone to worship him as Lord and God (Dominus et Deus),nbsp; He has declare his Empire as the eternal empire and himself as the everlasting king. This was particularly focussed in Asia as the centre of emperor worship.

Temples are being built all over the place for a place to worship the emperor (there is the ruinnbsp;of the temple to Domitian in Ephesus today).nbsp; All citizens and subjects had to go to a temple built in his honour, take a pinch of incense, throw it in the fire of the altar and say Caesar Kyrios ldquo;Caesar is lordrdquo;.nbsp;Domitian did not care what else people believed as long as they did this ldquo;little act of worshiprdquo; ndash; it was the glue that held the empire together.

The County Council are already commencing plans to sell Russell House and The Farm on Rickyard Road, Arbours to be redeveloped, probably for housing. Officially they are in a consultation period until 30th September, however plans are already in place to close the site by the end of the year.

Click here the information on the County Council Website.

The Farm has been used for many years to benefit youth locally and across the county. We believe that it is a resource that should be kept for the benefit of the community.

The facility is owned by Youth Services, and for that reason has been strictly limited in its use to youth related activities only. If the facility was opened up for wider community use, we feel that it would be of great benefit to the local community.

What can you do?

Fill in the petition form on the “Have Your Say” page

If you are on facebook, “Like” this page on Facebook

email us with stories and pictures of the Farm old and new to put up on this site!

Get in contact with the local councillors
